Arezou Fazli was awarded the 3rd Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the 13th European Conference on Solar Chemistry and Photocatalysis: Energy and Environmental Applications (SPEA 13), held in June in Krakow, Poland, for the work she is conducting with Lorenzo Vigano on « Photocatalytic Upcycling of Polyethylene Plastic Waste to Hydrogen Green Fuel and Value-Added Organic Molecules».
Postdoctoral fellows within the Phototocatalysis and Photoconversion group, Arezou Fazli and Lorenzo Vigano are jointly developing sunlight-powered catalytic processes that transform at room temperature plastic waste like PET, PU and PVC to green hydrogen fuel and added-value chemical building blocks.
By bringing photoreforming closer to real-world conditions, the work provides important insights into the design of future solar-driven recycling technologies. The research contributes to a growing vision of a circular economy, where sunlight is used not only to remediate plastic waste, but also to convert it into renewable energy and valuable products.
